He's a sweet-toothed fiend!! Hot chocolate with loads of sugar in or grenadine in beer - that's how he gets his fix!

Re: Rum review: Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva

I love sweet rums. If you enjoy it, it's great rum and the Diplomatico is loved throughout the UK.

That's why we're rum drinkers not connoisseurs. Ian Burrell drinks his beer with grenadine in it for gawds sake!

Good review Count

Neither of the rums post their ages at all - gives them a degree of latitude that I'm sure they enjoy.... The McDowells Celebration is one of the biggest selling rums in the world - selling by the swimming pool load in India. The Oronoco, despite proudly displaying it's Brazilian origins with a map ...

You tried some fantastic whiskies as I recall. The Midleton Very Rare, a Port Ellen 1975 first edition, the 1971 Culloden bottle of Glenmorangie http://www.royalmilewhiskies.com/product.asp?pf_id=0010000016673 and a 1986 double matured distillers edition Talisker if you got that far. Re: Tobacco infused rum

I understand the common method is to steam open a cigar and place it into the bottle. It won't need long though - depending on a wide range of factors, not more than a fortnight. Keep checking it every day

Extra Old doesn't exist anymore I'm afraid. The 10 year old is effectively replacing it - although at £60-70 a bottle it's hardly a like for like replacement

Re: Best way to make triple frozen ice?

Keep it simple Count, just take it out the freezer and let it thaw on the side. The thawing process forces the small oxygen bubbles out the liquid making more compact ice. Try filling a balloon with water and thawing, refreezing it a few times. Makes great ice!

I just texted Rich and he says he made you loads of different old-fashioneds. Standard OF recipes but with different bitters in them - E8 with cedar bitters, El Dorado with tobacco and leather bitters, HC7 with some bitters and he made one with a Silver Seal rum - he can't remember which!

Rum is both a preoccupation and an occupation for my IPB chums..... Count - I'll send you a huge batch of rum production notes covering the 15 ACR producers shortly. The Caribbean are dragging their heels getting it signed off, but when they do, I believe Refined Vices should be the forum to host it.

Re: El Dorado 12 vs El Dorado 15

I should have mentioned - we're training for El Dorado and they've given us the most wonderful insights into their brands. Because they operate 9 different stills, the range of marques they produce are simply phenomonal. Most believe the 12 and the 15 are seperated by merely 3 years whereas in fact ...

Re: El Dorado 12 vs El Dorado 15

The 12 was designed for a sweeter palette and the heart of the rum is the double wooden pot still, which gives a nicely refined, quite soft character. The 15 was designed to appeal to a drier palette and at it's heart is the single wooden pot still. This lends a wonderful rich, almost sherry like de...

Re: 15yo Pussers rum review

At the turn of the last century Naval rums contained a small measure of every rum producing nation in the Empire. Including, supposedly, an appalling South African rum that they had to use in the tiniest measures to avoid spoiling the blend.

Now it's much simpler and there isn't any Jamaican anymore

Interestingly, there isn't any Jamaican rum in the Pussers blend anymore I understand. Although I don't blame you for picking out a Jamaican style pungency in the tasting
